Why we built this

Starting P1 is a big feeling

Every year we meet Primary 1 children who are bright and capable, yet cannot name what they are feeling or speak with confidence in front of others. These are learned capabilities, and they are rarely taught.

So we worked with a clinical psychologist to build the curriculum, grounded in what our facilitators observe in P1 classrooms each term.

It begins in your child's first weeks of Primary 1 and unfolds over 50 sessions — social-emotional learning first, then drama-based public speaking built upon that foundation.

Most enrichment focuses on what a child can do. We start with who they are.

Excellence in Character

Feelings First — social-emotional learning

A social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum designed for Curos by a clinical psychologist. Four sprints take your child from recognising feelings to understanding others — every session a game, roleplay or craft. No worksheets.

Closes with the Badge Ceremony: every child called on stage by name. Parents invited.

Excellence in Expression

Drama-based public speaking

Three modules at a P1 pace. Modules 1 and 2 close the P1 year. Take the Stage opens P2, when children are a year older and truly ready. Nobody gives a speech before then.

It builds to the Grand Finale at Session 50 — every child performs to a live audience of parents.

Frequently Asked Questions

My child is very shy. Is this suitable?

Shy children often benefit most. Every early activity is done together as a class — nobody performs alone until they’re ready. Confidence builds session by session, game by game.

Isn’t SEL already covered in school?

School SEL is typically a short weekly slot with 30+ children. Feelings First is 20 dedicated sessions in small groups. We worked with a clinical psychologist to build it around what P1 children actually need. Same five competencies — very different depth and ratio.

My child already does speech and drama. Do they still need this?

Speech and drama teaches stagecraft — scripts, costumes, performance arts. Excellence in Expression teaches functional public speaking: eye contact, projection, storytelling structure. They complement each other — and Excellence in Character builds emotional skills that speech and drama doesn’t touch at all.

How will I know my child is actually learning?

Three ways. A Key Takeaway and home activity after every single session. Showcase sessions where children perform for their classmates. And the Grand Finale — where you see it yourself, live.

Is this included in Curos student care fees?

Yes. The P1 Excellence Programme is part of the Curos experience for every P1 child, included in your student care fees — there is no separate enrichment charge. The final module runs at the start of P2 and is likewise included for children continuing with us.

How does the journey fit across the year?

Sessions 1–40 run through the P1 year — all of Feelings First, then the first two speaking modules, each closing with a showcase. The final module, Take the Stage, opens P2: ten sessions of proper rehearsal leading to the Grand Finale. Performing lands exactly when your child is ready for it — and P2 starts with a triumph.
